New York State is home to the Stonewall Inn and is
considered by many to be the birthplace of the modern
GLBTIQ rights movement. After a long campaign for
equality by Governor Cuomo, the New York State senate on
June 24, 2001 passed marriage equality legislation.
At this time New York is the most populous state to
confer marriage equality and the third to do so through
the legislative process.
For many this is
an opportunity for celebration. For others a time
of quiet reflection. As we transition from the old
to the new it is important to stake stock of our lives
